About Us

Our History:

Baldwinsville Nursery School is a non-profit, nonsectarian school for Pre-Kindergarten children, sponsored by the First United Methodist Church. Children of all backgrounds and faiths are welcome. BNS was established in 1974 to provide an effective learning environment for preschoolers. We believe that each child is unique and does his/her “work” (play) in his/her own way and at his/her own pace. Preschool children learn best when interested and actively involved. As an inclusion preschool, BNS welcomes children of all abilities, including those with developmental delays and disabilities.

Daily Curriculum:

Each day, children choose which learning centers to visit. The activities in each center have been carefully planned to enhance learning through play. Some may choose dramatic play, while others build with blocks. Another group works at the tabletop center doing puzzles, playing a game, or using manipulatives. In the art center, some children may choose easel painting, while others work on the day’s art activity. There is also a quiet area where children can look at books, listen to a book on tape, or practice early writing skills. The science center encourages exploration and observation. More structured learning takes place during story time and in small groups, where teacher -directed activities help the children acquire readiness skills such as color, letter, and number recognition. During these times children are also exposed to basic Christian concepts. Each day, the children also visit our large motor skills room or our outside playground  (newly updated in 2015). Time is also provided for a daily group music experience. A daily snack time provides an opportunity to socialize, practice manners, and try nutritious foods, some of which the children help prepare. Field trips and special visitors round out and complete our curriculum.
